X-rays can be used to examine the chest, bones, joints and abdomen to detect everything from broken bones to pneumonia to cancer. Images of your bones, teeth and internal organs are made using electromagnetic radiation. Premier MRI uses the smallest dose of radiation necessary, minimizing the amount of exposure to radiation. The risk of damage to cells in your body is extremely low. The benefits of X-ray far outweigh the risks.
Before some types of X-rays you're given a liquid called contrast medium. Contrast mediums, such as barium and iodine, help outline a specific area of your body on X-ray film. The contrast medium appears opaque on X-ray film, providing clear images of structures such as the digestive tract or blood vessels.
X-rays can be viewed on-screen within minutes. Our radiologist views and interprets the results and sends a report to your doctor, who will explain the results to you.
When the exam is complete, each patient receives a CD containing the images of the exam. Your doctor will receive a complete report typically by the next business day.
